KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday to determine what killed a 16-year-old girl who was in custody at the Jackson County Juvenile Detention Center.

The teenager started feeling bad Saturday morning and told authorities. Police say staff checked on the teenager six times over a one hour period, but she was found unconscious around 1 p.m. Saturday.

Police say she was given first aid and rushed to Children's Mercy Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The girl's name has not yet been released as authorities try to contact her family.

She had been held at the detention center since Feb. 10, and it is unknown why she was in custody.

An autopsy is being done to determine a cause of death.
