KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

The Kansas City Symphony's education department has partnered with Union Station's Science City for this year's KinderKonzerts, entitled The Science of Sound.

The Kansas City Symphony KinderKonzerts are specially designed for elementary students in kindergarten through third grade, said a news release from the symphony.

Associate Conductor Steven Jarvi and co-host Science City Director Jeff Rosenblatt will explore how sound is made and heard. They will lead the audience on a journey through music by Beethoven, Copland, Mendelssohn and more to discover the many different sounds found in the orchestra and introduce the four families of instruments: brass, string, woodwind and percussion.

The symphony's education department concerts are designed to enable children in the greater Kansas City area to learn, create and become inspired through orchestral music, said the symphony's news release.

All programs are provided at little or no cost, through the support of generous donors in the community. More than 30,000 young people will participate in this season's various programs.
