FAIRWAY, KS (KCTV) -
After a pretty pleasant winter, the snow is coming down Monday morning.
Snow moved through the area just after midnight Monday. Light snow is forecast to fall through early afternoon, with possibly a light wintry mix before the precipitation ends on Monday evening.
As of 6:45 a.m. more than 180 school districts have closed due to the winter weather conditions.
The morning is also causing headache for commuters with the slick roads and moderate snow falling. Temperatures have risen above freezing, causing slushy conditions for drivers.
At Highway 92 and Hackberry Road just west of Tracy, MO, Platte County dispatch reports a number of cars off the road and an accident which could cause traffic delays.
Also at Hwy. N and Humphrey Road an injury accident was reported, but the extent of injuries are unknown at this time.
Clay County is reporting a number of slide-offs, and the Missouri Highway Patrol is reporting traffic backed up at Interstate 29 and I-35 in the Northland.
A number of traffic issues were also reported at I-35 in Pleasant Valley.
KCTV5 meteorologist Gary Amble said once the precipitation ends, temperatures will drop once again, creating a re-freeze issue late Monday night into early Tuesday.
Missouri Department of Transportation and Kansas Department of Transportation crews were busy clearing away snow from the slushy roads, and are asking drivers to take extra precautions.
Metro buses are currently using regular routes, and a few Metro buses are running five to 10 minutes behind schedule due to slick road conditions. According to the ATA, more delays may occur during the morning rush hour traffic as traffic increases.
Metro bus customers can contact the Regional Call Center at (816) 221-0660 to learn if the snow reroute plan is in effect. Details of the emergency snow reroute plan are available here.
