KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -
Kansas City is not just a place where people work and live, it has also become a top destination according to travel experts around the world.
It might just be time for a "staycation."
From travertine floors to original 1920s wood paneled ceilings, the Raphael Hotel on the Country Club Plaza was voted into the top 500 hotels in the world by Travel and Leisure Magazine.
"Even in the central state corridor, there were only 10 hotels, one in a six state region," said Rick Hughey with the Raphael Hotel.
Hughey said the hotel's views of the Plaza, luxury suites surrounded by Kansas City inspired art and food in the Chaz restaurant makes it a destination hot spot.
And it all starts at a rate of $179 a night.
"We like to showcase what Kansas City is … not just the hotel. Because we realize that people want to do more than just eat and sleep in a hotel," said Hughey.
Kansas City's attractions are making other noteworthy lists like Frommer's Top International Destinations in 2012.
"Eight destinations total, internationally, Kansas City was the only American city mentioned in places to see," said Rick Hughes, with the Kansas City Visitors and Convention Bureau
And Saveur Magazine rated Kansas City as the culinary destination of America this year.
"Our barbeque is great, our steaks are super, but there is a lot more to that culinary art that we have that people get into," said Hughes.
And it is all here, where Kansas Citians call home.
