NORCROSS, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

A woman in Norcross has her dog back home after it was taken from the house and tossed out of a car window by a man who claimed the woman hit his car, according to Gwinnett County police.

Robyn Aubrey, 59, said she was at home last Saturday night when she heard a loud knock on her door. When she opened it, a young man she'd never met was standing there. Police said he is 19-year-old Michael Norris.

"And I said, 'Can I help you?' and he said, 'You hit my car.' And I said, 'What car? My car hasn't moved in two days!'" Aubrey said, recounting the exchange.

During those moments, her dog, Autumn, scurried out of the house and ended up in the vehicle with Norris, who left after a brief argument. A few minutes later, police received a call that someone had tossed a dog out of a car window, a few blocks from Aubrey's house.

"(Norris) knows what he did. He threw (my dog) in the woods," said Aubrey.

Gwinnett police said Norris is responsible for cruelty to the animal.

"That kind of behavior is unacceptable," said Gwinnett County Cpl. Jake Smith. "The dog didn't even have a part of the argument in the first place, and the argument was misguided."

Aubrey found her dog in fair shape a day later, near the area where the dog was dropped. Norris was arrested and charged with cruelty to animals and theft by taking.
