Larry Hall, 59, of Lee's Summit, won the grand prize in Missouri Lottery's Silver Anniversary promotion on the day of the last drawing.
Each month since January 2011, players have been able to submit non-winning Silver Anniversary scratch-off tickets into a monthly drawing to win $1,000 and be qualified for the grand-prize drawing for $1 million on Jan. 20.
Hall, a retired lineman and father of three, said the prize is "life changing."
"It's a dream I've had for 30 years, and now it's going to come true," Hall reflected, adding that the windfall will "help out tremendously."
In addition to plans to "help out my kids," Hall is going to make a long-term hope a reality. The hunting aficionado intends to purchase land for a "hunting retreat."
"My son called me about 3:30 p.m., and I thought he was joking around with me," Hall recalled, noting that when his son informed him that he had won the grand prize, he "got kind of mad," and told him that his joke was "not funny."
Hall purchased the ticket that was drawn in the grand-prize drawing at a QuikTrip in Lee's Summit.
