Police are investigating an attempted armed business robbery at a fast food restaurant.
The Sonic Drive-In restaurant at Blue Parkway and Elmwood Avenue is closed Tuesday night after a robbery call came in at 1:56 p.m.
There were some customers eating at the restaurant when a gunman tried to rob it. None of the customers were injured, but police said the manager was shot in the leg and suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
A Sonic Corp. representative said the gunman walked up to the patio area, shot through the glass, and attempted to rob the clerk Tuesday afternoon.
The representative said Sonic's security measures kept the gunman from getting inside since all glass doors were locked. While the robber was unable to get any money, the spokesperson said, he did get away.
Kansas City Police said the manger who was shot was not seriously hurt and was taken to a local hospital to have his wound treated.
This is the third Sonic robbery in less than two weeks. The first happened the night of Friday Jan. 6 at a Sonic at East 104th and Blue Ridge Boulevard in Kansas City, MO. The second happened Sunday, Jan. 8, at a Lenexa, KS Sonic, located at 87th and Pflumm Road.
Police said this most recent robbery seems to be done by a different suspect than the previous two. They are checking the Sonic Drive-In and other area businesses for surveillance video of the suspect.
