Another brazen fast food robbery

Posted: Updated:

Another robbery of another fast-food restaurant in the metro. This time at a Sonic in Lenexa.

A very scary ordeal. Two Sonics hit just two nights apart, and the most recent was at a location off 87th Street and Pflumm Road in Lenexa.

And now, police on both sides of the state line are asking for the community's help.

It was Friday night at about 10:30 p.m. when two employees were inside the Lenexa Sonic when a man walked in, pointed a gun at the back of a young employee's head and demanded money. Both employees were forced into the back of the cooler, but were not hurt.

The robber got away with an undisclosed amount of cash and hasn't been seen since.

Sonic's general manager at the site declined to answer any questions.

Two days prior to the Lenexa robbery, the Sonic off Blue Ridge Boulevard in Kansas City, MO, was hit.  This time, two men, who were both armed, demanded money.

In this instance, an employee was pistol whipped while one of the robbers grabbed the cash. Investigators do not believe the two robberies are connected, but they are looking for any information the community can provide.

Investigators think the Kansas City Sonic robbery might be linked to several other fast food robberies.

If anyone has any information on those several other fast food robberies, or know who robbed the Lenexa Sonic, call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
