SHAWNEE MISSION, KS (KCTV) -

A stretch of I-35 was briefly shut down early this morning while Kansas Highway Patrol and other agencies investigated a shooting.

Police say a victim showed up at a local hospital suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg.  The shooting happened around 1 a.m.

According to officers, the shooting occurred in the northbound lanes of I-35 between 75th and 67th Streets.

The male victim from Overland Park told police he was driving in his white Ford Expedition when he felt a gunshot wound.  He drove himself to the hospital.

Police were notified of the incident about 3 a.m. The northbound lanes of the interstate between 67th Street and Shawnee Mission Parkway were shut down around 5 a.m. so police could search for evidence.

The highway was re-opened around 6:15 a.m.

There's no word yet on any arrests and police haven't released any description of a suspect.
