Search resumes for Trooper Fred Guthrie

BIG LAKE, MO (KCTV) -

Two weeks after a funeral service was held for Missouri Highway Patrol trooper Fred Guthrie, the search resumed for his body.

Hundreds of friends and colleagues gathered with Guthrie's family two weeks ago to mourn and celebrate the man who is believed to have perished after he was swept away in Missouri River floodwaters this summer. A court has declared Guthrie legally dead.

But his casket was buried without his body and his colleagues are determined to find it.

About 50 volunteers and troopers are doing a new grid search in the area of Big Lake on Wednesday. The sediment-covered area near Missouri Highways 118 and 111 includes places not searched on foot before.

The body of Guthrie's K-9 unit, Reed, was discovered and his cremated remains were buried in the grave earlier this month.
