LIBERTY, MO (KCTV) -
A memorial service has been scheduled for missing Missouri Highway Patrol trooper Fred Guthrie.
A visitation for Guthrie and his police dog, Reed, will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, which is at 1600 U.S. 291 in Liberty. The funeral will be held the following day at 11 a.m. at the same location.
A procession will then go from the church to Knob Noster Cemetery in Knob Noster.
Reed's body was found but Guthrie remains missing. He has been declared legally dead. Highway Patrol officials believe he was swept away in the floodwaters of the Missouri River. Guthrie and Reed were assisting in the area of Big Lake because of the flooding.
The search for Guthrie's body continues. Officials believe he was buried on Aug. 1. by tons of silt and sand.
He had served his department for 17 years. Reed was a five-year veteran of the Water Patrol Division.
Guthrie is survived by his wife, Teresa, and children Amber, Dylan and Cody as well as his parents, Frederick and Betty Guthrie.
