When Denise Hall didn't show up for Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday her family became worried. And her family made an awful discovery Saturday after she was killed in her home.
"Who would do something like that to her? An older woman? Who is so heartless to do that to her?" said the victim's daughter, Heaven Draper.
That is a question 21-year-old Heaven Draper desperately wants to know.
She still can't believe she will be spending the holidays this year without her mother, 56-year-old Denise Hall.
Draper went to her mom's house in the 2900 block of East 69th Street in Kansas City, MO, Saturday to check on her because she didn't show up at a relative's house for Thanksgiving.
"I was like maybe she is OK. But then the next night, I got worried had a dream and got up in the morning and went to go check on her," said Heaven Draper.
That is when Heaven says she found her mother shot to death in the living room.
"Every year she comes to my grandmother's house, and she just didn't show up and normally she calls me to say, 'Happy Thanksgiving,' and she didn't call this year," said Heaven Draper.
Heaven says her mom worked as a para-legal and had helped many people in the community. She has no idea who would commit this crime.
"She was always kind. She was giving. She would give you her last when she knew she couldn't or shouldn't give you her last," said Heaven.
Her mother's cell phone is missing and Draper didn't see any forced entry in the house, so she believes the shooter was someone who knew her mom. She hopes that anyone with information about this homicide will come forward and give her family the answers they need.
"Right now, I am willing to do anything to give my momma a little bit of justice because that is what she wants, and what I want. My momma didn't deserve anything like that," said Heaven Draper. "She did a lot for the community. She has helped a lot of people in many ways. It is time to help her out."
Anyone with info about this homicide is asked to call Tips Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
In the meantime, Draper also says her mother's dog is missing. His name is Chance, and he is a white lab, pit bull mix wearing possibly a red or blue collar.
The family says if anyone spots him, to please give the police a call.
