An overnight three-alarm fire tore through a Kansas City apartment complex leaving a dozen people homeless.
The fire broke out at an apartment near 83rd Street and Hillcrest Road around 3:30 a.m. Saturday.
Fire crews found one of the three-story apartment buildings in the complex fully engulfed in flames when they arrived. The strong winds posed a challenge to crews as they battled the flames.
All residents were able to get out of the building safely.
"I woke up and I saw smoke and I ran out of the house," said resident Crystal Harris.
Red Cross arrived on scene to help those displaced.
The apartment suffered a total of $500,000 in damages from the fire.
