WYANDOTTE COUNTY, KS (KCTV) -

A 10-year-old girl was killed in a one-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon, police said.

Tamya C. Jones, of Kansas City, KS, was not wearing her seatbelt. The crash occurred because the red Dodge Durango developed tire problems, according to Kansas Highway Patrol.

The 39-year-old driver was wearing her seatbelt. She was shaken up and had "very minor injuries," Kansas Highway Patrol said.

The crash occurred at 1:19 p.m. on Interstate 70 near mile marker 226. The 2001 Durango was traveling east on I-70 when the driver lost control.

"The vehicle left the roadway, struck the right guard rail and overturned before coming to rest in the roadway," according to the Highway Patrol.

The girl died at the scene. The driver was Novella L. Jones, also of KCK.
