Missing trooper swept away by flood declared dead

PLATTE COUNTY, MO (KCTV) -

A judge has declared a missing Missouri State Highway Patrol dead, according to court records.

The court declared Frederick F. Guthrie, Jr. deceased Aug. 1.

It has been nearly two months since trooper Guthrie was swept away by Missouri River floodwaters in Holt County while on flood patrol.

Trooper Fred Guthrie Jr. and his patrol dog, Reed, disappeared Aug. 1 while patrolling flooded areas near Big Lake, MO.

Circuit Judge James W. Van Amburg made the announcement after Guthrie's wife had petitioned for the declaration.
