An entire school is spreading out into the community to help make it better.
Many people might know just how big an impact a few volunteers can have helping out at local agencies around the metro.
Imagine what 700 motivated St. James Academy students can do.
Students loaded up into busses Thursday morning and set out for areas all over the Kansas City metro to lend a helping hand.
Thirty-four groups of high school students will volunteer for 27 area agencies for the school's annual Serve Day.
Serve Day has been a big part of the school year for St. James students and staff since the school opened in 2005.
Students will be doing everything from repainting the home of a family in need, to cleaning up local parks.
It is a volunteer day that St. James' senior Kristen Whalen said is a great way to pass on the good fortune they have been given.
"It is really wonderful to see what that impact looks like when you go out and you shovel mulch for a few hours at Shawnee Mission Park. Maybe this agency you are serving doesn't have the money or the needs or the man power to get it done, but we have been so blessed in our lives. We can share that with everyone else," said St. James' senior Kristen Whalen.
Serve Day has been nearly a year in the making.
