Immigration agents arrested eight people in Kansas and 17 people in Missouri as part of a nationwide crackdown on convicted criminal immigrants.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials said Wednesday they arrested more than 2,900 criminal immigrants in the last week.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement said Wednesday the "Cross Check" operation included the arrest of a 31-year-old Ethiopian national in Shawnee who was convicted of sexual battery.

The eight men arrested in Kansas included six Mexicans, one Cambodian and one Ethiopian.

Only one of those arrested in Missouri was female. ICE officials said in a news release that the arrests included a 34-year-old Sudanese man from St. Joseph, convicted of third-degree domestic assault and possession of a controlled substance, and a 37-year-old Nicaraguan man from St. Louis, convicted of illegal re-entry after deportation.

ICE officials said the Missouri convicts were from Bosnia, Canada, Cuba, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Somalia, Sudan and Ukraine.

Arrests in Kansas were made in Junction City, Kansas City, Lenexa, Manhattan, Overland Park, and Topeka.

Arrests in Missouri were made in Ballwin, Camdenton, Cole Camp, Imperial, Independence, Kansas City, Monett, Neosho, Pineville, Saint Ann, St. Joseph, and St. Louis.
