Training grenade in road complicated traffic in east KC

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Police say traffic is reopened after a report of a live grenade in an east Kansas City road proved false.

Kansas City police said they didn't find a live grenade in the area of Interstate 435 and Front Street. Because of the report, the northbound ramp to I-435 was closed. Both east and westbound lanes of Front Street were closed.

Stacey Graces, spokeswoman for the Kansas City Police Department, said the object was a training grenade with its pin still attached.

It is unknown how the training device wound up on the road, Graves said. It took police about 30 minutes to clear the scene.
