Women go topless to raise attention to breast cancer

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

A good cause had area women flinging off their shirts and baring it all.

The women went topless in an effort to bring heightened attention to breast cancer. About 250 women participated in the rooftop shoot in downtown Kansas City on Sunday.

P.U.R.E. and the Young Survival Coalition of Kansas City sponsored the event. The hope is also to raise awareness about the positive impact of women supporting women.

"Initially, women were a little skittish knowing they were going to be naked in front of the cameras," said Bo Flores, owner of Team P.U.R.E. "But they warmed up once they saw it was for a good cause and got very excited."

Flores said the participants were a wide range including an 85-year-old woman who had underwent a double mastectomy.

"Women have been very excited," he said. "We're excited."

Sales of the photos will benefit the Young Survival Coalition. Each model donated at least $20 to the cause. Prime Image also assisted with the shoot.

The event will move to other U.S. cities including Detroit, Chicago, Houston, Phoenix and Los Angeles.
