Students work to combat littering

Posted: Updated:
KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

A group of college students walking across America are doing more than just picking up trash.

They want to increase awareness of how much trash is littering the nation's highways and byways.

The four college students are walking from Maryland to San Francisco as part of an organization called Pick Up America. Part of their goal is to get motorists to rethink toss their trash out of their vehicle.

They hope to raise awareness about how littering hurts the environment.

You can participate in Pick Up America day this Saturday as the group walks from Johnson County to Lawrence. The group will be at Shawnee Mission Park at 8 a.m.
