WESTON, MO (KCTV) -
In a few weeks the town of Weston will be gathering at the high school stadium for football games, but on Monday night a community remembered a missing Missouri Highway Patrol trooper in the only location big enough to handle the crowd.
Hundreds of friends and family poured into West Platte high school's stadium to remember trooper Fred Guthrie.
Those that knew Guthrie say he was a very dedicated trooper.
"It just shows support for the family, and how well Fred was loved and respected. Fred was the type of person that never met a stranger and felt comfortable able talking to anyone. A super guy, and I miss him every day," said close friend Bill Cox.
That love and respect was in the line of duty and in the community.
Guthrie's patrol car was found abandoned on the banks of the swollen Missouri River on Aug. 1. Guthrie's patrol dog, Reed, was also remembered Monday night.
Missouri state troopers continue to look for Guthrie in the river. The search has been scaled down, but troopers say they won't quit until Guthrie is found.
