BIG LAKE, MO (KCTV) -

A week after Fred Guthrie disappeared into the raging floodwaters of the Missouri River, his heartbroken colleagues continue their exhaustive search to find his body.

The Missouri Highway Patrol trooper went missing a week ago. He worked for Troop A as a Water Patrol trooper but was assisting Troop 5 with flood efforts. The body of his German Shepherd, Reed, was found a day later.

Sgt. Collin Stosberg tells KCTV5.com that the search area is now 14 square miles.

"We are continuing the full-scale search throughout the week and will continue to search until we find him," Stosberg said. "The search will continue until he is found, although, it might be scaled down at some point."

Guthrie was a 17-year veteran of the Highway Patrol. Family members have been holding a vigil near the search area.
