Heat claims another victim

Posted: Updated:

The Kansas City Health Department confirms it is investigating a fifth suspected heat-related death.

The latest victim was a man born in 1953.

A spokesperson of the Kansas City Health Department said Tuesday afternoon he did not know exactly when the man died.

"It doesn't have to be inside a heat advisory or warning to increase the risk of a heat-related death," Jeff Hershberger said.  "If it is warm outside, people need to be aware of what is going on in their bodies, and if they are outside they need to keep hydrated."

Already this summer Kansas City has seen unreasonably warm temperatures.

The Kansas City Health Department had a total of 12 suspected heat-related deaths last year, four of which were confirmed.

The Kansas City Health Department has not received any confirmation on confirmed deaths this year.
