LENEXA, KS (KCTV) -

Police asked Friday for the public's help in locating a man that authorities say robbed a Lenexa jewelry store and then shot the owner in the back.

A woman with red or pink hair highlights is also being sought.

Around 3:00 p.m. Thursday, officers were dispatched to an armed robbery and shooting at a jewelry store near 77th and Quivira. When they arrived, they found the store's owner, a 71-year-old Overland Park resident, suffering from a gunshot wound to the back. The man is expected to recover.

Louis Suarez told KCTV5's Justin Schmidt that he has shopped in the area for 16 years and was stunned by the violence.

"You see traffic stops here, but never something like this," Suarez said. "When you see crime scene units here, you get worried."

Lt. Karl Burris with the Lenexa Police Department said the owner was transported to an area hospital where he is listed in stable condition.

The male suspect is described as a black male, mid 20's, 5'06", thin build, wearing a knee-length white t-shirt and ankle length gray shorts. Burris said he was also wearing a dark baseball cap and was armed with an unknown type pistol. Police said the woman was in her mid 20s and wore shorts, which allowed witnesses to see a prominent tattoo on her upper thigh. She drove the getaway car, which was a dark 1990s Honda.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Lenexa Police Department at 913-477-7301 or the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
