A Gladstone toddler who is bravely battling a brain tumor has given hope to others.
The community in turn is giving Marley Moore hope by holding fundraiser's to help defray the costs of her medical expenses.
KCTV5's Matt Stewart reports that Marley is facing impossible odds but is a strong and courageous little girl who has touched many lives.
When Marley was barely a year old, her mother, Nikki Moore, noticed she was lethargic and had little appetite.
"They did a CT scan and found a massive tumor in her brain," Nikki Moore said.
Marley underwent surgery to remove the tumor. Her relieved parents thought she had come through the scary operation and would recover until that night when she suffered a stroke.
"Her stroke was very devastating, she lost all use of her right side," her mother recalled. "She lost her speech."
Therapy helped Marley retain the use of her right side, but she still struggles to walk, talk and see.
Marley is too young for radiation, which means the malignant tumor is still growing. Nikki Moore said her daughter takes anti-seizure medicine.
"We're just kind of out of options so we're just thankful for every day that we have her here," Nikki Moore said.
She said support from her friends and church have helped the family through this difficult time. She said her daughter inspires her and others to embrace life.
"It kind of gives you hope that no matter what life throws at you, you can still smile and be happy and be thankful for every day."
Friends of the family have organized fundraiser's to help with medical costs. A golf tournament will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Staley Farms Golf Club. The proceeds from the tournament will benefit Marley and her family.
