Heather Staggers joined KCTV5 in November 1999. Heather came to Kansas City with a wealth of previous experience, serving as a reporter and anchor for WABG-TV in Greenville, Miss., and a reporter for KTBS-TV in Shreveport, La. (Texarkana Bureau).
Heather's hometown is DeSoto, Texas. She attended Langston University in Langston, Okla., receiving her degree in broadcast journalism.
Heather has been a part of KCTV5's Emmy award-winning news team and takes pride in covering major new events from presidential elections to high profile criminal trials.
She has been recognized by her university alumnae association as a supporter in the community.
Heather also received a Media Women of Courage award from her sorority Delta Sigma Theta and was acknowledged by Rose Brooks Domestic Violence Family Center as the 2012 Media Advocate of the Year.
"Being a reporter can be fulfilling," she says, "exposing you to world of new and exciting feats."
Heather completed a professional journalism exchange program in the fall of 2012 in Europe learning about politics, economics and media. Under the RIAS Commission, she traveled for two weeks with 12 American journalists to Berlin, Dresden, Prague and Brussels. Heather is also a fellow with the Poynter Institute for Media Studies in St. Petersburg, Fla.
She is married and lives in Kansas City, Mo. She and her husband have two daughters. She enjoys traveling, dancing, and cooking.
