The summer heat is taking it's toll on everyone in the Kansas City area, but it's also hard on people's four-legged friends.
There is a volunteer group that is trying to make life easier during this period of excessive heat. Chain of Hope is a local animal outreach team that spends its hot summer afternoons, searching for animals in need of relief.
The group's goal is to find as many pets that are chained up outside and give them water, food and help with fly control. The group leaders said the conditions are not always pretty and scars from the summer heat are easily seen.
It's a tough task, but the team said they can see the appreciation.
Leaders said perhaps the group's biggest goal is to spread the word about the dangers of the summer heat and outside pets. They said bringing an animal inside for a couple of hours a day can really make a difference.
And while the group knows this is a never-ending cause, volunteers said it's their love for animals that keeps them going.
