Surae Chinn

Surae Chinn joined KCTV5 News in January 2005 as a reporter. Viewers can see her anchoring the weekend morning news.

She began her career in Dubuque, Iowa, as a general assignment reporter. Before coming to Kansas City, Surae gained valuable experience covering hurricanes in eastern North Carolina and reporting and anchoring in Lynchburg, Va.

Surae is an award-winning reporter. She is the recipient of a regional Edward R. Murrow Award for her special coverage and 30-minute newscast on Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. She also received honorary Associated Press awards for Best Documentary for her in-depth series on kidnapping.

Surae spent her childhood in Hawaii before moving to Virginia. She graduated from Virginia Tech and is a member of the Asian American Journalist Association, or AAJA.

When Surae is away from the KCTV5 family, she enjoys traveling, yoga, and meeting new people. She also loves spending time with her dog, Penny, and her cat, Mei Li.
