Missouri linebacker Sean Weatherspoon has been named one of five finalists for the Butkus Award, given annually to the nation's top collegiate linebacker.

The announcement was made on Friday by the Butkus Foundation. Weatherspoon joins Sergio Kindle of Texas, Rolando McClain of Alabama, Eric Norwood of South Carolina and Brandon Spikes of Florida as finalists for the 2009 award.

Weatherspoon, a senior from Jasper, Texas, enters Saturday's home finale against Iowa State with a team-best 93 tackles, including 12 for loss and three and a half sacks. Weatherspoon ranks third on Missouri's all-time career tackles list with 395. He's only 20 shy of reaching the No. 2 spot with two games left in the regular season.
