Kansas To Play In Insight Bowl

POSTED: 8:17 pm CST December 5, 2008

(Sports Network) - The Kansas Jayhawks will be playing in the Insight Bowl this season, the school announced Friday.

It's the second consecutive bowl appearance for the Jayhawks, who finished 7-5 this season after a 40-37 win over then No. 12 Missouri last Saturday. Kansas' opponent for the bowl, which takes place December 31 at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Arizona, has not been determined.

"Our players are really excited, they deserve this opportunity for postseason play; they've earned it," Kansas head coach Mark Mangino said. "We're going to have fun, but our players will be the first to tell you the most fun of going to a bowl game is winning it. That's what the trip is all about."

Kansas went to the Orange Bowl last season after, in the final regular season game, Missouri upended the then-undefeated Jayhawks and ended their drive for the national championship game. That loss dropped Kansas to 11-1, and the Jayhawks went on to beat Virginia Tech in the Orange Bowl.
