ELECTION RESULTS: COMBAT Tax Easily Passes

Voters throughout the Kansas City metro area went to polling places Tuesday for a variety of questions and open positions.

The COMBAT anti-drug program tax easily passed by 68.16 percent to 31.84 percent, which renews the tax for seven years.

The COMBAT tax funds anti-tax programs in the county and is administered by the Jackson County Sheriff's office.

A vote to renew a law enforcement tax in Clay County also easily passed with more than 70 percent of voters approving the question. A partial smoking ban in Liberty, Mo., also passed with more than 70 percent of voters approving the measure.

Also in Jackson County, an $85 million bond measure for Independence, Mo., schools passed with more than 68 percent of voters approving the question.

In the Center School District, a bond measure question passed by a landslide with more than 77 percent approving the question. The bond will provide $6.75 million dollars to the school district.

On the Kansas side, the only vote in Johnson County was for Fairway voters, who easily approved a half-cent sales tax for capital improvements, with 63 percent of voters casting yes votes.

The only Wyandotte County vote came in Edwardsville, where voters turned down a sales tax question, with 52.86 percent voting against the question.
