'La Vie En Rose' Tops British Film Awards
'Atonement' Wins Best Picture

The British period drama "Atonement" won Best Picture at the British Academy of Film and Television Awards Sunday, the U.K. equivalent to the Oscars.Despite a leading 14 nominations, the BAFTAs honored "Atonement" for only one other award -- production design.Daniel Day-Lewis, who has won Best Actor honors from the Screen Actors Guild, the Golden Globes and Broadcast Film Critics Association, continued his strong momentum going into the Oscars with another win as a conniving oilman in "There Will Be Blood."French actress Marion Cotillard won the Best Actress prize for her portrayal of songstress Edith Piaf in "La Vie En Rose." The film also earned BAFTAs for music, costume design and makeup.Like Day-Lewis, Javier Bardem continued his awards season roll with a win for Best Supporting Actor for playing a ruthless killer in "No Country for Old Men." Tilda Swinton won Best Supporting Actress honors for her role as conflicted corporate attorney in "Michael Clayton."The Best Original Screenplay trophy went to Diablo Cody for offbeat comedy "Juno," while the original screenplay award went to Ronald Harwood for "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly."Joel Coen and Ethan Coen took the Best Director BAFTA for "No Country For Old Men."
