Canucks Ink Former Red Wing Samuelsson To Three-Year Deal

POSTED: 12:45 pm CDT July 3, 2009

(Sports Network) - The Vancouver Canucks signed free agent right wing Mikael Samuelsson to a three-year contract on Friday. Per club policy, financial terms of the pact were not disclosed.

The 32-year-old Swiss had 19 goals and 21 assists in 81 games last season for Detroit. He added five goals and 10 points in 23 playoff games as the Red Wings advanced to their second consecutive Stanley Cup Finals appearance. He will now join fellow countrymen Henrik and Daniel Sedin, both of whom signed lengthy extensions with Vancouver on Wednesday.

Originally selected 145th overall in the 1998 draft by San Jose, Samuelsson has collected 86 goals and 122 assists for 208 points in 466 career regular season games for the Sharks, Rangers, Penguins and Red Wings.
