Bills Release 22, Including James, Spragan, RB Wright

POSTED: 10:54 pm CDT August 30, 2008

(Sports Network) - Cornerback Will James, linebacker Donnie Spragan, and running back Dwayne Wright were among 22 players released by the Buffalo Bills on Saturday, as Dick Jauron's team reduced its roster to 53 players.

James, who appeared in 14 games with six starts for the Philadelphia Eagles last season, failed to crack a cornerback rotation that added first-round Draft choice Leodis McKelvin and fourth-rounder Reggie Corner via the Draft.

Spragan, who started 45 games as a member of the Broncos and Dolphins from 2003 through 2007, failed to make much of an impact in the preseason and could not rise up the depth chart.

Wright, appeared in 14 games as a member of the Bills last season, but fumbling problems caused him to lose his No. 3 job to sixth-round rookie Xavier Omon.

Also released by the Bills on Saturday were tight end Courtney Anderson, linebacker Jon Banks, linebacker Marcus Buggs, linebacker Blake Costanzo, offensive lineman Dustin Dickinson, tackle Patrick Estes, fullback Jonathan Evans, offensive lineman Robert Felton, defensive back Dustin Fox, offensive lineman Christian Gaddis, running back Bruce Hall, wide receiver Felton Huggins, defensive tackle Jason Jefferson, defensive end Derrick Jones, defensive tackle Corey Mace, tight end Tim Massaquoi, wide receiver Scott Mayle, offensive lineman Nevin McCaskill, and defensive tackle Teraz McCray.

Of that group, Costanzo, Fox, Gaddis, Jefferson, and Massaquoi all spent time on the active roster last season.

Anderson, a former starter with the Raiders, spent two games each with the Falcons and Lions a year ago.

The Bills will open their regular season on Sept. 7, when they play host to the Seattle Seahawks.
