Browns CB Baxter Hits Snag On Comeback Trail

POSTED: 8:11 pm CDT August 5, 2008

(Sports Network) - Cleveland Browns defensive back Gary Baxter, who has not played a down since 2006, had arthroscopic surgery to remove loose cartilage from his knee on Tuesday.

Baxter, 29, joined the Browns in 2005 as a free agent from Baltimore, but he played in just five games before suffering a season-ending right pectoral injury.

In 2006 he played in just three games before he tore the patella tendons in both knees while breaking up a pass against the Broncos in October. He missed all of last year while continuing his rehabilitation, and his return from this latest injury has yet to be determined.

Baxter has appeared in 62 games with the Ravens and Browns since 2001 and has recorded 299 tackles, three sacks and eight interceptions.
