A 4-year-old boy was found around 12:30 a.m. walking his dog on a Kansas City street, and police finally received a call from the boy's parent around 5 a.m.

The boy was located at 9th Street and Woodland Avenue. Police said the boy was waking his small dog when police found him. Officers said they took him to the police station at 1200 Linwood Avenue.

Police said it appears the boy's mother woke up and noticed a door open and that is when she found out the boy was gone. The mother and boy have not been reunited yet, because the department of social services continues its investigation.

The boy is described as a 4-year-old black male, with braided hair, wearing a blue and white Nike sweatshirt, blue jeans and white tennis shoes.

Police officials called social services, who is taking care of the boy and animal control was called to take care of the dog.
