FAIRWAY, Kan. -- KCTV5 Chief Meteorologist Katie Horner said a steady snow will begin falling after midnight on Sunday and the storm will last throughout the morning on Monday. The target of the storm has drifted eastward, Horner said. Central Missouri is now the focus with Columbia, Jefferson City and Sedalia expected to get between 3 and 7 inches of snow.Because temperatures should stay at about the freezing point overnight, most of the main thoroughfares should be clear for the morning commute in the metro, although snow will accumulate on lawns and grassy areas, Horner said. KCTV5’s More in the Morning will be on the air at 4:30 a.m. to give viewers weather and traffic updates.Kansas City officials are requesting that all residents voluntarily refrain from parking their vehicles on city streets from Monday through Wednesday to help with snow removal efforts.Kansas City can expect to get about 1 to 2 inches of snow by Monday morning with a total snowfall of between 1 and 5 inches by early afternoon, Horner said.Interstate 35 is the dividing line with 1-3 inches falling to the north and west and 2 to 5 inches falling to the south and east. Horner said temperatures will drop in the afternoon as cooler, dryer air will push into Kansas City from the north.Winds will increase during the morning on Monday and blowing snow could become a problem during the afternoon causing problems for drivers during the afternoon commute, she said. The Kansas City area is under a winter weather advisory.Horner said flurries began in the afternoon on Sunday and will continue throughout the evening hours in the metro.
