OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- A 45-year-old youth pastor has been charged with indecent liberties with a child after an investigation revealed an inappropriate relationship, prosecutors said.

Johnson County prosecutors said 45-year-old Wayne Huston used to work at Holy Cross Lutheran church as a youth pastor. The charges state Huston met a 14-year-old girl at the church and move the relationship to an inappropriate one.

Overland Park police said the girl's mother called SRS after discovering inappropriate text messages on her daughter's phone.

The investigation began in December, even though Huston had been fired from his position at the church months earlier. The church has not said why Huston was let go and did not return KCTV5's inquiries.

Investigators said Huston kissed and fondled the teen girl and was formally charged Monday with indecent liberties with a child.

Huston is being held on $25,000 bond and is due back in court in March.
