KCMO, Area Schools Cancel Classes On Thursday
Schools Shut Down For Fourth Day

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Officials from the Kansas City, Mo., School District have canceled classes for Thursday.This is the fourth day in a row that snow and wintry conditions have force the cancellation of classes. Kansas City is the first of the major school districts in the area to call off classes for Thursday.All central office staff, principals, vice principals, psychologists, secretaries, custodians, truancy officers, skilled trades, and security officers are required to report to work as scheduled, district officials said.Other metro area schools that have called off classes include Lawrence, Ottawa, Kansas City, Kan., Bonner Springs, North Kansas City, Lee's Summit, Raytown, Lawrence, Harrisonville, Belton, Hickman Mills, Blue Valley, Shawnee Mission, Tonganoxie, Eudora, De Soto, Olathe, Gardner-Edgerton, Turner, Grandview, Grain Valley, Oak Grove, Odessa, Blue Springs, Spring Hill, Leavenworth, Liberty, Raymore-Peculiar, Park Hill and Louisburg.Harrisonville, Raytown, Odessa, Grandview, Grain Valley, Oak Grove, Bonner Springs, North Kansas City, Lee's Summit, Park Hill, Liberty, Blue Springs, Raymore-Peculiar, Hickman Mills, Belton and Independence have also canceled school on Friday.Forecasts for Thursday call for extremely cold temperatures combined with breezy conditions that could lead to drifting snow. Snow began falling at midday on Wednesday and is expected to continue throughout the evening.Law enforcement officials were reporting slippery road conditions with several slide-off accidents happening throughout the metro area.
