Family Watches 4 Bobcats Play In Back Yard

A Shawnee family had some feline visitors to their back yard earlier this month, only these were no house cats -- they were four wild bobcats.

"They just came from nowhere ... out there having fun!" homeowner Tiffany Comiskey said.

Earlier in December Comiskey's husband called her to their back window for a rare sight.

"I kept watching and there was another bobcat and then another bobcat," Comiskey said.

The family saw four bobcats playing around the Comiskey's swing set, seemingly in a game of tag while mom kept a close watch.

As the family watched, a coyote showed up, curious as everyone else about the flock of large cats.

"To see something like that, out here in a suburb, in Kansas City," Comiskey said.

The mother bobcat's patience with the curious coyote quickly came to an end and with the swipe of her paw the coyote was scared away. Comiskey said though the sight was incredible, it was unnerving as well -- she has two toddlers of her own.

"It's kinda scary," Comiskey said. "A little scary because my kids are out there playing all the time."

Still she said the bobcats were there for an hour, making it a great thing for her family to see and one they won't soon forget.

"I'm so glad we had the camera charged up and ready to go because no one would've believed us," Comiskey said.

Comiskey said her family has checked every morning since they first saw the bobcats, but so far they haven't been back.
