OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- Some gifts come wrapped in paper and some come parked in driveways. For 18-year-old Robert Williams the four wheels parked in his driveway are wrapped in love."He wants to go to college and we knew without a vehicle he couldn't go to college," said Marta Osbern of Ryan Lawn and Tree.Williams is a senior at Cristo Rey High School in Kansas City and as part of his curriculum he works at Ryan Lawn and Tree in Overland Park in order to get business experience. In order to travel to work, Williams has had to depend on others for rides every day."(It's) a hassle," he said. "I walked home or I took the bus. With this I don't have to do it anymore."Williams' co-workers raised some cash to get him an upgraded car from cars for Christmas -- the charity that gives used cars to deserving people. On Wednesday they presented him with a 1999 bright blue Pontiac Grand Am."It's an honor people think so highly of him," said his mother, Sharon Williams. "It makes me very proud to call him my son."Sharon Williams said the day is bittersweet. While they can't believe the kindness displayed by his co-workers to give him the gift, they also see that Robert is an independent man who is moving forward in his life.
