LONE JACK, Mo. -- Firefighters remained on the scene of a house explosion putting out hot spots late Friday afternoon near Lone Jack.

KCTV5's Betsy Webster reported that the explosion happened at about 2 p.m. at a home near Stewart Road and Route E. Firefighters said the house was completely engulfed in flames when they arrived.

Officials said there was no one home at the time of the explosion. Fire crews were able to keep the blaze from spreading to a three-car garage, although the house was a total loss.
