Family, Friends Pay Respects To Fallen Soldier

The family and friends of a metro soldier killed in Afghanistan a week ago started paying respects to the man Sunday night.

The family held a visitation at Mount Moriah Terrace Park Funeral Home for Lance Cpl. Nicholas Hand.

The funeral for Hand is set for noon on Monday in Leavenworth.

Hand died while in action on Nov. 22 in the Helmand province of Afghanistan.

Hand was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Hand was a graduate of Oak Park High School.

Hand's family will bury him at Leavenworth National Cemetery following the funeral.
