KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Kansas City police set up a sting outside of the Jackson County Courthouse to arrest drivers who drove away from the building with a suspended license.Kansas City police said they have little tolerance for those who continue to drive with a suspended license.Since Monday was traffic day at the court, officers set up across the street from the courthouse to stop drivers who were behind the wheel of vehicles pulling out of the courthouse parking lot.Raymond Roland has a revoked license for driving while intoxicated and was pulled over in the sting Monday. Sitting next to Roland was his attorney, Ray Sullivan.KCTV5 asked Sullivan why he would let Roland drive away from the court."He has to work," Sullivan said.Sullivan said he met Roland at the court, but doesn't agree with what police did on Monday."They are picking on the guy who didn't do anything wrong," Sullivan said.Roland wasn't happy about being arrested either."It's a bunch of (expletive)," Roland said. "I was coming out of court and they got a phone call. (Expletive) walked out with my attorney. A man's got to work. A man's got to go to school. The only way to do that is drive."As Roland headed to jail, the arrests kept coming. Another driver rolled away from court and Benson ran the plates. Before the officer could stop the vehicle, the driver ran a stop sign. The car stopped in a parking lot and the driver fled the scene. A few blocks away officers caught up to the man and arrested him."I hit the brakes," the driver said."You can't tap them and keep going," an officer said. The man was not on the list of suspended drivers. He was at the wrong courthouse. However, in his car, officers found a loaded handgun and marijuana.Officers said the day was a success for their sting and said they hope it serves as a warning to drivers who are not supposed to be on the road."If we aren't at court, we will be at the bar doing the same thing or watching your house," a Kansas City police officer said. "We will get you."Kansas City police made at least six arrests in the sting in about two hours.
