INDEPENDENCE, Mo. -- Two people were killed in crashes overnight in Independence.

Police said at about 1:15 a.m. a 23-year-old Parkville, Mo., man was speeding down Kentucky road when he lost control of his car and veered off the roadway and hit a tree.

He died later at an area hospital.

Officers said just before midnight a motorcyclist was killed when he lost control and also hit a tree. The 47-year-old Kansas City man died at a hospital.

Police said alcohol played a factor in the wreck.
