The family and those in the small town of Farley are hoping to find out who shot two brothers who were hunting on a gravel road Wednesday.

The brothers, 14 and 20, live around 200 yards from where they were shot.

The brothers' father, Vance Devlin, said the 14-year-old is out of the hospital and still recovering from his injuries, while the 20-year-old is still in the hospital with a shattered bone and damage to his knee.

Neighbor Tim Moore said the the two brothers are known as well-behaved kids, well-versed in hunting safety.

"They've been here ever since they were little bitty whistles," Moore said.

Some in Farley are concerned about what happened on Platte River Road, where the brothers' clothes still sit at the spot where emergency crews attended to their wounds.

Platte County investigators are still working to figure out where the gunfire came from and who fired the shots.

There were two shots in all, one bullet hit the 14-year-old, the other bullet hit the 20-year-old as they walked side-by-side down the country road around dusk.

Platte River Road is a public road, so investigators don't think the shooting was intentional.

Residents in Farley said they are troubled by the thought that whoever was responsible didn't run out to help and hasn't yet come forward.

Those residents are confident their questions won't remain unanswered for long if their local game warden has anything to say about it.

"Top notch game warden," Moore said. "He leaves no stone unturned. And him working in conjunction with the sheriff's department, I feel they will get to the bottom of it."

Devlin said his 14-year-old son is home, but will likely be out of school until after Thanksgiving. Devlin said his son is upset, because that time off is forcing him to miss football games and practice.
