MISSION, Kan. -- Mission police said a 14-year-old beat the odds earlier this week when she made it out of stranger's care untouched. The teen was walking along Johnson Drive on her way to Shawnee Mission North High School when she noticed a man in a white car following her. She said eventually the man offered her a ride. She said he drove her to Antioch Park before dropping her at school."It's kind of ridiculous that you have these kids this age and nobody's keeping an eye on them walking outside to school," Shawnee Mission parent Robin Hoffmann said."This is a nice neighborhood and you would consider it to be relatively safe, but you never know," parent Richard Coleman said. The ride with the stranger turned into a 15-minute conversation that authorities described as inappropriate."It was a random conversation with questions about sexual activity mixed into the conversation," said Lt. Dan Madden, of the Mission Police Department."She made a mistake and we're glad that she's OK," he added. "Hopefully she has learned a lesson."
