Crowds were waiting outside the door for the first Dunkin' Donuts in the Kansas City area to open its doors Thursday morning.

The Overland Park location, located at 7722 W. 151st St., is owned by local developer Verona Key, which said the chain plans to open 15 stores throughout the Kansas City metro.

Former Kansas City Royal George Brett worked the drive-through at the restaurant and will cut the ribbon at the store. The shop also teamed with Harvesters to collect canned goods. On Friday a trailer will be brought to the restaurant to collect canned goods.

The store plans to be open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

The company has also reached out to fans of Dunkin' Donuts on Twitter. It held a preview of the shop that was only open to customers that followed the location on Twitter.
