KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Overland Park native and Saturday Night Live actor Jason Sudeikis will throw the switch for the Plaza Lighting ceremony Thanksgiving night.This year marks the 80th Kansas City Power and Light ceremony and it will be broadcast live on KCTV5 from Wyandotte and Nichols Roads.The official Plaza lighting festivities begin at 7 p.m., with the flip of the switch at 7:30 p.m. by Sudeikis. Fireworks displays begin immediately after the flip of the switch, above the main stage near The Cheesecake Factory and at The InterContinental Hotel. The ceremony wraps up at 8 p.m.The ceremony will feature performances from the Plaza Light Choir, House of Rock, dancers from Paso Academy and a 3-D tribute to the Salvation Army. Kerry Strayer and the Plaza Lights Orchestra will back all performers.KCTV5 will broadcast live from the Plaza immediately following the NFL game between the Cowboys and Raiders, with the full hour-long ceremony shown from 7 to 8 p.m.The hanging of the KCP&L Plaza Lights is handled exclusively by Capital Electric.The KCP&L Plaza Lights will shine daily from 5 p.m. to 3 a.m., Thanksgiving through January 17, 2010.
