OLATHE, Kan. -- Olathe is holding an "amnesty day" Tuesday to try and help resolve more than 6,200 outstanding warrants.Olathe officials said the warrants come from everything from traffic charges all the way to some theft and drug charges. The goal of the program is to have hundreds of people line up at the municipal court to take care of their original fines, Olathe officials said. Those who take advantage of "amnesty day" will not be arrested and the warrant fees could be dropped. Olathe officials said those with warrants must be willing to pay their fines in full or work out some type of approved payment plan in order to qualify for amnesty.Only people with misdemeanor charges are eligible for amnesty, but that includes some DUI charges and theft charges that add up to less than $1,000.Olathe police said the main reason they are running the program to keep people with minor offenses out of jail."It's mutually beneficial it saves the city money and it saves those individuals money as well as the hassle of going through the process," Olathe Police Department Sgt. Johnny Roland said. The amnesty program runs from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Municipal Court, 1200 S. Harrison St.
